Jasper Johns Academy for the Arts
The school is large, yes very large, the core classes are in the center of the building along with the lunch room, principals office, etc. The right and left wing of that building are where the art rooms are, which I will come to in a moment. The girls dorms are to the right side, and across the campus on the left are the boys dorm buildings. The library is separate from the school, and as big and good as any college library.
Now for the art rooms. The theater as a wonderful wood stage, which is completed by the red velvet curtains, and then there are the lovely opera house like chairs for the audience to sit in. The theater is truly exquisite. The walls of it painted a creme, and gold molding around everywhere..it's very..Italian looking.
The art rooms are very light and airy. French doors complete the rooms, and all the art classes rooms are on the bottom floor so that depending on the weather the teacher can open the doors while the students paint, or sketch inside, or they can go outside and paint or sketch.
The rooms for dance are all on the upper levels of the building huge ceiling to floor windows for one wall, two walls are made of mirrors, and the last just a plain off white wall, which has a bar on it, wrapping around and ending after crossing one of the mirrored walls.
The music room has absolutely wonderful acoustics, making everything sound just wonderfully angelic. These rooms have no windows though and are either painted a creme or a off white.
The photography rooms each have several tables in the main room and a sink. Then there are the dark rooms. A revolving door which lets in no light so students can come and go as they please without having to worry about bothering their classmates.
The walls in the room white, and are normally covered with pictures students put up, changing every semester.
Then there's the film, a room filled with computers for editing and and lots of camera equipment. These rooms have large windows and are one the upper level of the school.
Lastly there are the rooms for creative writing, these are down stairs, this way the students who need high ceiling and wide open space can go outside if they choose, and work on their poems or narratives; whatever the teacher has assigned for that day.
Welcome to one of the best art schools in the world.
Not only will the wealthy children be found here...oh no. At this high school you'll also find the poor who are here on scholarship.
The school believes in expressing your individualism and therefore has never instructed any sort of dress code or rules about the children's appearances.
They also allow their students to roam freely, though every night you must check into your dorm building by mid-night or else the police will be notified right away.
And with giving teenagers this much freedom one can only expect them to be doing what teenagers do. Going to shows, having sex, getting high, and causing as much drama and spreading as much gossip as one could possibly imagine.
The school wasn't always called Jasper John either, the building was built in the early 1920's which explains the amazing architecture, and it used to be a home of a wealthy southerner. The school was remodeled on the inside in the 80's and shortly after opened as a Boarding School for the Arts.
